N81 Route Improvements Works
Introduction
Wicklow County Council, in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, appointed Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) as the lead consultant to progress two separate projects on the N81 in parallel; the N81 Whitestown Lower Project and the N81 Hangman’s Bend and Tuckmill Project. This route improvement project aims to address road deficiencies contributing to the poor road safety record on the network.

What’s Happening Now?
The project is currently in the Design and Environmental Evaluation phase of the project lifecycle. This entails developing and refining the preferred options identified following an Options Study into preliminary designs and carrying out a detailed environmental evaluation of the project impacts.
The project team will contact stakeholders, including landowners directly affected by the project and Statutory Undertakers once the designs are sufficiently developed to understand their implications better. These consultations aim to understand stakeholders' needs and concerns and to develop design solutions that minimise disturbance to stakeholders where possible, particularly in the design of access arrangements and accommodation works.
Landowners may also be contacted in the interim to facilitate field access for survey and investigation works.
